  1. The Return of Wood

Top designers around the country are opting in for wood based cabinets and finishes to return warmth and calmness back into the home as we see a shift away from the clean lines and cold finishes that modern kitchen offer.

Try it out! Integrate wood paneling and opt for a type with natural beauty, like ash wood.

  2. Little Details

A cornerstone of design is customization, this is prevalent now more than ever as people continue to spend more time at home dining and entertaining. Simply put, build a space that works for you; one which caters to your unique tastes. That means everything from the layout of the kitchen, finishes on appliances, customizable facades and covers!

Try it out! Create a DIY juice counter or create your own coffee cart.

  3. Double Islands

“This trend adds storage to your kitchen, and it provides more space to prepare food and entertain guests,” says Huston based designer Nina Magon. With sleek sight lines and abundant counter space, double islands are the ultimate indulgence (if you have the space)…

  4. The End of Upper Cabinets

Increasing the functionality and usability of a space (like double islands) do, eliminate the need for upper cabinets. This is ultimately a win, as it opens up the space and allows your kitchen to double as an entertainment area.

Try it out! Incorporate open shelves as areas of display to house beautiful dishes and glassware, but be conscious not to overcrowd them…

  5. Smarter Kitchens

Smart appliances have been a game changer in the kitchen design space for a while now. Advancements like smart faucets, to ovens being controlled by your smartphone to simple touch-closing cabinets have made smart kitchens the ultimate luxury, until now. With new tech advancements reaching the market everyday, competition has become steep, empowering the masses to create their very own smart kitchen.

  6. Concealment

Ever wonder how people in AD’s designer photoshoots store their counter kitchen appliances? We’re talking about your instapots, crockpots, air fryers, etc. Concealed design is the name of the game. There are so many options now that remove the cluttered look from counters, such as pop-up plugs, rotating panels that contain storage behind them, and push-to-open cabinets with invisible hardware.

  7. Rethinking Materials

“I’m seeing a big return of old materials used in new ways,” reflects Romanek. “Brass hoods, copper panels, wood cabinets, onyx instead of marble, unique lighting, sinks in different finishes—so much good stuff!”
