) All Black Everything
It’s a misconception that black makes spaces look tiny. Quite the opposite in fact: when used cleverly, it works very much like white, minus the light reflection qualities of course. What we mean, is, that it unifies suffices and eliminates corners that are the key visual problems with small or oddly shaped rooms. With polished black stone or lacquered black paint, it can still reflect light, only more sophisticatedly. Plus, the added bonus of gleaming up the space with warm metal accents – think brass handles, copper rails or even artfully placed metal cookware.

2.) New Country Kitchens
No matter what the size of the room, or the style of the building, a country kitchen exudes familiar warmth – the very essence of the kitchen. But the country kitchen circa 2021 is far removed from the ones we grew up with. Gone are the cherry wood cabinets. Instead contemporary tones like duck-egg blues and sea-foam greens lend a smart update to this classic style. Light touches, such as white-base marbles, lightwood accents and gold-hued fittings work beautifully with the look.

3.) Marble Chic
The more veins it has, the more prized the marble is; or at least when it comes chic kitchens. This look takes an exacting eye and patience, for the marble must be chosen from the same lot and from its cutting to installation on site, its grains should be precisely bookmatched. The result is a marble-festooned landscape that is both bold and timeless. Gold-hued wood like walnut, steel and paint that picks up on the marble’s pattern complete the palette.

4.) Terrazzo
Worktops, splashbacks or atop kitchen islands, terrazzo adds instant oomph and character. And there are just two rules that will guarantee stop-in-your-tracks terrazzo moments. First, use chunky offcuts in exciting stones – the small black and grey shards are a thing of the past. And second, pay attention to the pigment you add to the cement aggregate. Step away from grey, white or terracotta. Think pastel pinks, soft corals or even, statement-making black.
Yellow Cloud Studio used coloured stones and black cement for a statement-making terrazzo island.
5.) Technicolor Kitchens
Treat each surface of your kitchen as a canvas to express joy. Bright, bold colours- greens, blues, yellows, oranges – are positively mood-altering. Invest in coloured tiles instead of the usual staid ceramics or indulge in bright, vibrant cabinetry. With very little, you can make yourself a happy kitchen.
